Tip Tuesday: Get Involved in Your Community!

We’re one week out from the election and we wanted to take this chance to remind you all that sometimes big things are happening off the internet and it’s important to be out in the world, doing things. This time last week was Election Day and Susan was giving people rides to the polls, while Emily was registering new voters.

Our society could not function without the armies of volunteers that run our community infrastructure from behind the scenes. Both of us volunteer in our communities, and we can’t recommend it enough. It’s a fantastic way to give back, meet new people, and learn new skills. Luckily, you also have an infinite variety of organizations that need your help – arts and theater venues, food shelves, homeless shelters, local schools – the list is endless. Many of them have multiple ways to volunteer, and are grateful for even just one afternoon of help.

Another plus for young volunteers – lot of non-profit boards of directors are specifically looking for “fresh blood” to join them, so you may even be able to take on a leadership role sooner than you might think. Find your cause and sign up to help!
